More than 100 remarkable women and a handful of remarkable men gathered to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 6 at the Ringsend and Irishtown Community Centre in Dublin, Ireland.

Locals and RW team members and supporters from France, Finland, Ireland, England, California, Georgia and New York enjoyed a day filled with joy, laughter, tears and cheers. The celebration ended with a fantastic performance of songs, by and about women, performed by the Ringsend Glee. Authors, actors, dancers and inspirational speakers wowed the crowd at the sold-out, standing room-only gathering produced by the Remarkable Women Project, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to sharing stories about remarkable women to inspire everyone to live courageously.

Jill Doyle, a member of our Remarkable Women Project Advisory Committee and co-director of the National Performing Arts School in Dublin, took the lead on producing the community-based event. Our key event sponsors included ISS Ireland, a global facilities services company that provided a delicious lunch hosted by ISS executive Eric Doyle. Orla McGuire, CEO of Lash Star Beauty with offices in Dublin and New York, donated upscale mascara and cosmetics bags for all. Louis Maxwell, founder of Grace Park Productions, covered the event from beginning to end to produce several videos. The Dublin City Council provided 30 free tickets for neighborhood women of all ages. Local bakers delivered beautifully decorated and delicious cupcakes and a gorgeous RWP-themed cake. Local florist, Susan O’Brien, donated a lovely bouquet to decorate the stage which was raffled off at the end of the day.

Remarkable Women Project board member Judy Guillermo Newton flew over from California to deliver a compelling keynote presentation, sharing her inspiring thoughts on what makes a woman remarkable. Her passionate remarks elicited cheers and tears from the crowd. Alice Look, author of Remarkable Women: Reclaiming Their Stories, published by our non-profit organization, joined Nuala O’Connor for an insightful chat about their work. O’Connor is a poet and Ireland’s most beloved author of historical novels about women. The duo presented an engaging conversation about why and how they write both fictional and non-fiction books about remarkable women in history. O’Connor, author of Nora, a best-selling novel about Nora Barnacle Joyce and Seaborne, based on the life of Anne Bonny, Ireland’s most notorious female pirate.

After lunch, Sheena Lambert, a screenwriter and the RW Project’s lead screenwriter and a producer, hosted a lively discussion with three of Ireland’s most accomplished actors: Sheila Flitton, Mary Murray and Amy De Bhrún. The respected actors shared reels of their work and discussed why they are drawn to playing strong women in history. Murray played Cosima Wagner in Cosima, Lambert’s one-woman show, which was a sold-out hit at two Dublin theatres and is heading to theatres around the world.

Deirdre Mulrooney, an expert on Irish dance and a filmmaker, shared a fascinating presentation and short about dancer and choreographer Lucia Joyce, daughter of James and Nora Joyce. Her talk was followed by an inspiring interview with Joanna Banks, a ballerina still performing at age 86. (My conversation with Joanna at the party after the event was a highlight for me).

The RW Global Summit raised money from ticket sales and a lively raffle to support programs serving women and families at the Centre. Special thanks to the Centre’s staff led by Lorraine and Lisa for all their support and hard work. Thanks to Angie Becerra who provided all the decorations and royal blue table cloths for the event before donating them to the Centre.

Before and after the Summit the core RW team enjoyed delicious meals at local pubs, including The Vintage Inn.

We are now starting to plan the 2026 Remarkable Women Summit in Helsinki, Finland. Stay tuned for more details on that.
